General Info Seanchan

Role Play Information

Seanchan gain a new name on a variety of occasions, marking the occasion as an extremely important event in their lives.

For all Seanchan

Birth name: this is the name given to children when they are born.

True-name: upon their 6th birthday, a Seanchan child will receive their true-name which is then usually chosen by the parents based on certain characteristics of the child. This can be a physical appearance but more often refers to the character or personality of the child.

New name for promotion or punishment

The Empress, may She live forever, may give a new name as a reward to those she deems has done the Empire an exceptional service. This often is accompanied by a promotion to a higher rank or an important increase of the recipient's status among their peers which is directly linked to the amount of honor one has in the eyes of the Empress, may She live forever.

Similarly, the Empress may also decide to hand out a name as punishment, with the intent to shame the recipient in the eyes of their peers. This may or may not come with a demotion of rank, but the shame is still quite severe for the Seanchan honor-bound sensitivities.

Damane

The majority of the damane will receive a new name upon being leashed. This is not always considered a punishment, but for the most part viewed as a necessary step to detach the girl from her former life and identity and embrace her new role in the Empire. The naming of a damane is usually done by the Sul'dam who first collars her.
