General Info on the Kin

Role Play Information

Kin live a very long time, almost twice as long as the longest living Aes Sedai. The White Tower is not aware of this while the Kin are under the assumption that the Aes Sedai live 'at least' that long. One might think that one of the former Aes Sedai that is now a Kin member might have brought it up, but judging from the ignorance of almost all Kin members, this appears not to be the case. We can only assume that former sisters want to have as little as possible to do with their old lives and so avoid any topic that concerns it.

There have been cases known in the Kin of members reaching as old as 600 years, though at present the oldest Kin members do not go over 450.
See below on the rules concerning the Kin members' ages.

Strength in the One Power has absolutely no weight in the standing of a Kin member in the group, while age has everything to do with it. It determines the Kin member's level of authority over others, their readiness to take on leadership positions and it lends them more weight in discussions and meetings. The Kin's system is based on the motto that 'wisdom comes with age' and their whole organization is built upon it.

Because age is such a high factor in the Kin, there are specific rules to follow concerning your Kin character's age for the PSW.

Age Rule in Biographies

As you can see in the 'Kin Hierarchy' section, there is a maximum age limit of 150 for potentials to join the Kin. The vast majority of potentials will join the Kin at a much younger age, though so it is highly unusual that one so old would join. Keep this in mind when developing your character.

Kin characters can be bio'd up to the point where they start their first Turn as a Kin member, but before they would take on any of the specific roles in the Kin.
This means, if you are planning on having your Kin character be a Potential Trainer, you can bio her up to the point where she starts her new life as a new Kin Member and then RP her way into the role of a PT. This goes for any new Kin member, regardless of her age.

The bio age of characters is the age the Kin character has in the main timeline. This means that if you wish to RP elements of her life before the point where she reaches her bio age, you will have to do so in retro. If you join your Kin in any Main Timeline RP Arc, your Kin will be her bio age or older.

The older your Kin character is in her biography, the longer we expect that biography to be as it should cover more years in your Kin's life.
We expect for a potential between

  • 10-50 years: a normal sized biography (check out the bios for reference of what is considered normal sized)
  • 50-100 years: half again as long as a normal sized bio
  • 100-150 years: double a normal sized bio

Aging through RPing: Rules

Since age is such an important part of the Kin's hierarchy there are some conditions linked to being allowed to jump your character forward in age.
Please note that you are not obligated to age your Kin any higher than you wish her to be. The following is only for those RPers that want to age jump their character(s).
Here are the conditions that must be met:

Staff approval is needed to jump to: 200 - 300 - 400 years.  (send a private message (pm) to Mystica at Dragonmount with your request)

  • 0-150 years: 1 RP per 50 years (so 3 RP's to reach 150) warning.gif
  • 150-200 years: the above + 1 Kin role RP (your Kin does not need to take on a role, she can be spending time with another Kin in a specific role)
  • 200-250 years: the above + 1 Kin leadership RP (your Kin does not need to take on a leadership position, she can be spending time with one of the Circle Members)
  • 250-300 years: the above + 1 major RP (= inter-division/main storyline RP)
  • 300-400 years: the above + 2 RP's in a Kin role or Kin Leadership position
  • 400+ years: this is subject to FL Staff approval.

warning.gif If your character is 150 in her bio then you only need 1 reflective RP that covers her 150 years before being able to move on to the next age jump. This can be done solo or with another character (or even several), depending on what you prefer. It will serve as your character's starting point in the active world of PSW and as indicator of your active status within the Guild.

hup2.gif   In case there are no other active Kin members around, contact the FL Staff and they can grant you permission to do the required RP's on your own as reflective RP's. This          option will be reviewed when there are sufficient active Kin members in the Guild.

Note: the age related RP's must be done within the age frame indicated.
For example: if your Kin character is to jump to the age of 200, then she must have the 3 RP's in each of her 50 years up to 150 years and the Kin role RP when she is           between 150-200 years old.

The RP's must be finished before they will be counted as valid.

Check out the 'Progression System' for more detailed information on how to claim your age jumps.
